The first Muslim cemetery section in eastern Germany
In 1993 our community had its first death...
The question was whether to repatriate for burial or bury here in Germany. The family chose repatriation. The issue had become urgent: what should we do when a Muslim dies in Germany?
In 1995 the situation came to a head...
...when we had a death that could not be repatriated. We then spoke with the city of Leipzig about a solution. Muslims need their own burial area. The talks continued until 1996.
In 1996 we concluded the talks...
...with the city of Leipzig and from then on Muslims in Leipzig could be buried in keeping with both civic and religious requirements. Since then we have also worked with our trusted funeral director.
